Where is Amber Heard Now?

Amber Heard

It’s been over a year since the contentious defamation trial between actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard captivated the public’s attention.

The six-week trial, which was livestreamed and dissected daily on social media, ended with a jury awarding Depp over $10 million in damages from his ex-wife Heard.

While Depp has been slowly rehabilitating his career in the aftermath, what has Heard been up to since the fallout from the trial?

Living in Spain

Amber Heard has been embracing a new chapter of her life in Spain after her public defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

Following the trial, where various personal details were revealed, Heard chose to relocate to Spain, spending her time between Madrid and Mallorca. She expressed her fondness for Spain, stating, “I love Spain so much, I hope I can get to stay here as I love living here.”

Recent insights into her life in Spain reveal that she owns a property in Costitx, Mallorca, valued at three million euros.

Locals have described her as fitting in well, often buying fruits and vegetables from the local grocery store. She communicates in Spanish, albeit with a Mexican accent, and is known for her politeness.

In The Fire

On the professional front, Amber Heard has two upcoming movies. The first, titled ‘In the Fire’, is a supernatural thriller set to premiere at the Taormina Film Festival on June 24.

Amber Heard recently premiered her new film “In the Fire” at the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily. This marks her return to cinema following two high-profile trials involving her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

At the festival, Heard was warmly received by fans and was all smiles on the turquoise carpet, which was chosen to match the Mediterranean backdrop. There were concerns about potential demonstrations by Depp’s supporters, leading to increased security measures.

The film’s production was influenced by the legal battles, with the first trial in London in 2020 and the second in Virginia in 2022. Despite the challenges, the film’s team felt a sense of camaraderie during the shoot. In “In the Fire,” Heard plays Grace, a New Yorker who travels to South America to work as a doctor during the early days of psychiatry.

She is summoned to a remote Colombian farm to treat a boy believed to be possessed, facing challenges from the local community and the boy’s father.

Director Conor Allyn had previously collaborated with Heard on a TV drama project. He described her as a “force to be reckoned with” during the shooting of “In the Fire.”

Aquaman

Amber Heard’s character, Mera, has been showcased in the newly released teaser trailer for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

This comes after speculation about her role in the sequel. Despite the controversies, reports indicate that Heard’s role as Mera will remain significant in the upcoming film.

In the teaser, Mera is briefly seen running towards a burning house. The character is depicted in a greenish suit similar to the one from the first film, although a new blue suit for the character was recently unveiled.

Heard commented on the pressures of big franchise movies, noting the challenges of balancing high expectations with the realities of film production.

Some fans have expressed their disapproval of Heard’s involvement in the film, with calls for boycotts using the hashtag “#boycottaquaman2.” Warner Bros. is set to release the first full trailer for the film on September 14, 2023. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20.

Hip Injury

Amber Heard was also recently seen using crutches in Madrid. The 37-year-old “Aquaman” actress revealed to photographers that she injured her hip while training for the upcoming New York City Marathon scheduled for early November.

She expressed her excitement about reprising her role as Mera in the upcoming film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” set to release in December.

Additionally, Heard was relieved that Australian prosecutors dropped a potential criminal case against her related to allegations from 2015 about smuggling her two pet dogs into the country.

And while many petitioned for her to be kicked out of the Aquaman sequel, she will reprise her role as Mera for the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is in post and should be out this year.

Though the petition failed to remove Heard completely, or replace her with the wanted Emilia Clarke, her role was reduced.

Focus on Being a Mother

In the spring of 2021, Heard welcomed a daughter, Oonagh Paige, via surrogate. She kept the details pretty private until a few months later, enjoying their initial bonding time before going public in July of 2021. Amber stated that despite everything, she just wants to raise her daughter and put her energy into the family she has made.

Still Takes Time For the Public

Amber may be trying to lay low and keep her circle small, but that won’t stop her from taking time for the public. In December 2022, Spanish actor and artist Diego Ferro met with Amber, was able to chat with her a bit, and posted a beautiful photo of the pair smiling for the camera on his personal Instagram page.

It seems Heard is going to take some time to regroup and raise her little girl while taking her time to add more roles to her resume. Whether you side with Depp or Heard, Amber and her daughter deserve the privacy they want while they figure it all out.
