3. Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge
The Rio Grande Wildlife Refuge is a gorgeous National Wildlife Refuge originally established in 1979, located along the northern banks and reaches of the Lower Rio Grande, just north of the Mexico/United States international border.
The beautiful refuge stretches for more than 90,788 acres and is home to 1,200 species of native plants, 500 bird species, and 300 species of butterflies.
Wildlife that can been seen in the refuge include ocelots, caracaras, great kiskadees, red-billed pigeons, Altamira orioles, ringed kingfishers and green jays.
4. Hunting at Lower Rio Grande WMR Teniente Tract
The Lower Rio Grande Valley Teniente tract is located 11 miles west of Raymondville, right off highway 186.
The tract is enclosed by wire fence and includes 4,000 acres of South Texas brush.
Animals that can be hunted in the tract include white-tailed deer, feral hogs, Nilgai antelope and javelina.
All hunters must have a valid Texas hunting license and must use a hunting license tag on harvested deer. Hunter must also only use archery or shoulder fired rifles per the special hunt category for which they were drawn.
There is no camping allowed and there is not cleaning facilities. Hunters must be prepared to process and pack game in the field, and take to their vehicle.
5. Willacy County Historical Museum
